We shape our curriculum to ensure it is fully inclusive of every child and that it addresses each aspect of how a child grows both academically and emotionally.

Intent

Our intentions are clear: to ensure all children make progress from their starting points; to ensure all children develop a love of learning and to ensure our community grows with us. In addition, we want our children to develop a vast array of skills and knowledge, which they can transfer across different subjects within the curriculum. Enrichment is woven into the fabric of our planning, teaching and assessment process in each and every subject. Our children come to school with different life experiences, which impacts on their vocabulary, reasoning and understanding throughout all key stages. We intend to provide a wealth of themed visits to improve learning outside the classroom and to create links between learning and fun for our children. We want the learning gained from visits to be invaluable as to how our children develop understanding about the world in which we live and how it can help learning inside the classroom become more tangible. We want to prepare all our children for the next stages in their educational careers as well as allow them to develop their aspirations for adult life.

Implementation

In ensuring progress is made and can be measured throughout the school, implementing an all-inclusive approach to teaching and learning is important for our children. Our curriculum is crafted to ensure all children have equal access to all areas of the curriculum, enrichment activities and extra-curricular learning too. We have devised our curriculum to ensure breadth and balance for all. We shape our curriculum utilising features within our local area which has enabled us to develop our children’s religious knowledge, science, art, history and geography skills. We utilise our local area well, to help us build on experiences available to for our children to thrive. We have excellent relationships with our local church, parish council and community, all of which contribute to our unique curriculum throughout the year. As much as possible, we take our children out of the local area, to provide them with rich learning experiences which they are able to talk about with their friends and families and make links with their learning in school.

Impact

The impact and measure of this is to ensure children not only acquire the appropriate age related knowledge linked to the curriculum but also skills which equip them to progress from their starting points. In shaping our curriculum this way, progress can be measured and evidenced for all children, regardless of their starting points or specific needs. We teach our children to ensure we alter their long term memories and we define progress as knowing and remembering more. Teachers and staff work hard to plan a broad and balanced curriculum which is expertly delivered to ensure a child’s entire school experience enables them to develop a deep body of knowledge which will see them through to further study, work and a successful adult life in whatever they choose. When our children leave us they have a wealth of transferrable skills which have been developed throughout their time at primary school in an inclusive and nurturing environment. We are proud that our children have been exposed to rich vocabulary and have high aspirations and self-belief all through the teaching of our broad and balanced curriculum.
